UNCOVERED
Every year, more than 5,000 cases go unsolved. Victims’ cases that go cold most often are BIPOC, sex workers, or LGBTQ+.
Indigenous women face murder rates that are more than 10 times the national average.
80% of trans women killed in the past five years were Black, and only 42 percent of the cases resulted in an arrest—declining murder clearance rates exclusively occurred among homicides of Black victims.
Sex workers are 18 times more likely to be murdered.
These aren’t just statistics, they are people: who deserve justice.
SERIAL
In this series of episodes, hosted by Professor Deb Donig, we tell one story—a true story—of a cold case, and the people using new technologies to solve it.
Over the season, we will investigate the 1997 murder of Georgia Leah Moses.
Georgia Lee Moses was just twelve years old when she went missing. Twelve. Her story tells the tale of how the system failed, again and again, to step in when it was needed – to support and care for the ones who need it the most. Her death was preventable. Perhaps just as tragic, is that Georgia’s case remains unsolved over 20 years later.
Over the course of the series, we’ll review the case, we’ll talk to true-crime experts, we’ll follow the Uncovered team as they work to solve it using new technological methods, and we’ll trace how the case has moved through the criminal justice system, from 1997-present.
