Memory as a Narrative
From the first episode we see that the hosts are given limited access to their memories in order to add complexity to their gestures. But as the story continues we begin to see the hosts piece more and more of their pasts together.
The Unheard Voices of People Experiencing Homelessness
One point made by Kevin and Jessica during the podcast, was the importance of narrative in storytelling and its roles in society. The goal of Miracle Messages was to bring unheard voices and stories to the surface in order to generate awareness to the problem of homelessness.
Eyes are the Window to the Soul
Like a glass window, they can be modified with films, and additional supplements to what they do, but ultimately, they are fragile, and out of all parts of the house, they show wear the most, but humans don't have Windex to clean away the blurriness in their vision, and in a purely utilitarian sense, parts of the eye are replaceable.
The Importance of Inclusion in Tech
I think the global technologic community that has been created still inherently is not fully inclusive as technology has not been made accessible to everyone. In an effort to ensure technology is accessible to everyone, I see that internet access cannot be treated as a luxury, as it is becoming integral to filling forms, banking, and even the way jobs are found.
How Technology Ends the Glamorization of Death
Some people might struggle with the philosophical component of this, but does it bother you to the point that you would die before you have to? As our world becomes more and more secular, will the glamorization of death end and will technology take charge?
The Promising Structure of Video Games
A utopia shouldn't be where everyone lives a perfect, conflict-free life all the time, but where they can spend it bettering themselves and improving their lives and the lives of others with all the same resources to do so. I think that is a much more feasible ideal where people still struggle, but provides a reasonable hope that they overcome them.
When Mind and Body Become Foreigners
Does the ability to mix and match our organs and introduce inorganic replacements into our bodies make us more detached to our physical being? Or does it make us appreciate them more because they can help us understand each other better?
A Composition of Interchangeable Body Parts
Being so young and eager to be driving, I did not consider any of the philosophical ideas about organ donation and what it might mean for someone else to be walking around with my heart.
A Dependence on Tech
If you aren't connected you're at a disadvantage.
Thinking Differently
The things that worked were studied until a "more" systematic way to achieve success in the technological field was developed. At times it seems that this system has actually developed a roadblock for continued innovation.
Racial Injustice in Science Fiction
"Further Considerations on Afrofuturism" verbalized much of what's been on my mind in regards to how our stories have reflected our societal disenchantment with futurism and optimism of the future.
The Power to Create
When people are able to create, envision, and make symbolic messages through their own work, they are threatening the control that one may have upon them.
Reality is Built from Fiction
I believe that everyone is acting for the “greater good”, but the issue is that we all define “good” differently.
The Need for Attention
The desire for attention has been a characteristic of humanity since before we considered ourselves human and wise individuals have always known the power of holding others attention.
Knowledge and Intelligence
“The art of turning around”, or putting effort into truth finding rather than accepting what is in front of you, is what separates the intelligent from the knowledgeable.
The True Life
Simply put, if our society reaches a point where we cannot trust our doctors and scientists to provide accurate, helpful information, then what is the point of making technological advancements at all?
The Death of Character
There can be no individuality when each character must exclusively focus on one specific job/function, mandated to be their whole purpose in society.
You Can’t Buy Memories
The memories I hold closest to my heart are the ones money couldn’t buy. I’ve felt more myself surrounded by my family fleeing a thunderstorm halfway up Mt. Whitney. I’ve felt more myself feeing the music and air fly through my horses ears at the Reno Rodeo. There isn’t a single thing I wouldn’t give up to hold onto the memory of folding my sister’s clothes into her new dorm room and giving her one last hug and well wish. A life without these moments or the ability to comprehend and hold onto these moments seems empty.
The Obstacle Is the Way
I have been ruminating over the meaning of happiness, and how we get it, for the past week. I think that there is something to be said about feeling sadness. Overcoming these obstacles is how I grow as a person.
Language Matters
Both Jessica Doing and Kevin Adler never say the words ‘homeless people’ or refer to them as simply ‘the homeless’. They always say ‘people experiencing homelessness’. This small change in the way we say things shifts the perspective drastically. We need to identify people by their existence as a human being, not by any physical or mental facets.
